Which four items?
The four are the hinges, the handle, the outer frame sealant strip and the inner frame sealant strip — all replaced in one visit.
Hinges and handles are the safety hardware: they determine whether the sash is carried securely and locks properly. The two sealant strips determine whether the sash sits flush against the frame once closed, and whether rain tracks in through the gap.
Let any one of the four fail and the other three suffer for it — oxidised hinges drop the sash so even new strips cannot seal, while hardened, contracted strips let in draughts however well the sash closes. Handling all four together is more thorough than dealing with them one at a time.
Why all four together costs less than one at a time
Doing them separately means removing the sash and attending the property again for each item — the same work repeated.
On a high floor needing scaffolding, doing them separately means erecting it more than once, and scaffolding is usually the single most expensive line on the job.
